Context: So, we’re playing a Vampire the Masquerade game, set in our home country of Australia, where guns are illegal. While investigating something, our bumbling Ventrue detective gets into a gunfight with a criminal.
Ventrue: Okay so I hide behind the wall and dial the police.
DM: Okay they pick up
Ventrue: Help I’m in a gun fight at (gives location) and I need assistance.
DM: Noises of Police sirens and shouting abound.
Other Players: You do realise you have an illegal weapon, right? The police are gonna arrest you and if you don’t get out before morning it’s gonna be a whole new kettle of fish.
Ventrue: Ah… shit.
Our Ventrue attempts to sneak away from the fight and isn’t having much luck, plus the clock is now ticking fast.
DM: The criminal thinks sees you and starts heading toward the long grass where you are hiding.
Ventrue: Alright from my crouching position I want to just roll backwards into the long grass and away.
DM: Okay I guess…
Ventrue: Rolls spectacularly
DM: Alright you tuck into a ball and with incredible skill and grace roll away into the grass like an idiotic grey Sonic the Hedgehog.
Entire Party: Loses it
Since then it has become an inside joke to suggest simply Sonic rolling away whenever a character faces a difficult situation.
